This week was supposed to be filled with Halloween parties, trunk or treats and just plain fun. Instead, it has been filled with doctor visits, prescriptions, breathing treatments and a humidifier. On Saturday after the Boo at the Zoo, Sadie seemed to be overly tired. I just chalked it up to her running around the zoo like a maniac. On Sunday, we were at my moms and she was being super ornery which is not like her especially when she is at grandma Joys. She went down for a little nap and when she woke up, she had this barking cough and a fever. My mom (who is in nursing school) told me to get her stethoscope so she could listen to her breathing. Well, things didnt check out in that department either. My mom said, "it sounds like she has croup." And in my mind, I am like no way. My sister Carrie (who is also a nursing student) busts out one of her nursing books to see what the symptoms of croup are and lo and behold, Sadie had most of them. Argh! As we were driving home, Sadie kept coughing and it seemed like she was having a hard time catching her breath. We got her home and got her down to bed, but Charlie and I spent most of the night checking on her.
Yesterday morning, I took her to her pediatrician. Not only does she have croup, but she also has yet another ear infection. I left the doctors office with four prescriptions and the caution to keep her away from other little kids. Of all the weeks to be sick! She has to do these crazy breathing treatments at night and is on some steroids to help get her back in tip-top shape. I feel bad that she is missing out on all the fun things we had planned for this week, I am hoping she will atleast be able to go do a little trick or treating on Friday.
She is so tired of being inside, so tonight I decided we could go outside for just a little bit and she could paint her little pumpkins our sweet neighbors gave us. She was so excited to be outside and quickly took off her jacket and shoes to run around. She refused to put them back on, so I just told her to paint fast. She loved every second of it. She kept telling me "thanks" for taking her outside. She was so excited to show them to Charlie when he got home from school. They are quite the colorful works of art.

No fun being sick. I hope that you caught this in the early stages and you are able to get her better doing things at home. Sadie is so stinkin' cute!
I am so sorry, it is the worst being sick during a holiday (any of them)! Dax has had croup three times...it takes FOREVER to go away completely. Good luck.
So...Charlie Brown and the Great Pumkin, here you come!
I'm sorry Mary! We sure are going to miss you both at play date today. Kaden had croup last Halloween, definitely no fun! Does she have to take the lovely steriod pills? If so the dr gave us a fabulous idea on how to get Kaden to take them...let me know if you need it! I hope Sadie gets feeling better very soon! Looks like she is having a blast painting her pumpkin! I guess the up side is that cold air is actually supposed to help croup. Good luck!
Oh, poor Sadie! It's no fun to be sick during a holiday! At least she got to do Boo at the Zoo! That looked like fun! Hope she gets feeling better soon!
Poor girl! Both of our girls have had RSV and the breathing treatments are no fun. I hope she gets feeling better soon! Or at least gets some candy trick or treating Friday night.
Oh, I hate croup! The "barking cough" always sounds so horrible. That's so sad to be sick when so many fun things are going on. I hope she feels better so she can trick or treat! Get better soon Sadie!
That stinks that poor Sadie is sick during Halloween. No fun at all. She looks like she had fun painting pumpkins, though, which is good.
Oh man I am sorry she is sick! She sure is growing up fast, she is very beautiful!
That is the reason I am dreading winter with every fiber of my being!! I hope Sadie is starting to feel better. Peyton had rotovirus last spring and I thought I was gonna hurl myself over a cliff. I hope you're hanging in there!
It's so sad when your kids are sick. Breaks your heart!! I know Stacy's kids get croup and it sounds so awful :-( I hope she gets better so she can trick or treat. Poor thing! Painting pumpkins is always a big hit at our house too! I like Charlies princess purse!!
Poor Sadie! & You!!! Hope she's feeling better soon.
