Book Club and Wedding Cake...They Go Together Right?

Last night marked the start of the new year in my book club and I must say that my sides still hurt from laughing all night. Leilani was the host and we spent the night in her adorable house and had some yummy pie from Marie Callendars. The book for January was "The Truth about Forever" by Sarah Dessen. The book is about a young girl, Macie who is dealing with the death of her father who had a heart attack while running one morning. The book details her journey through the years after losing her father as she "finds" herself. It is a beautiful story full of hope and the power of love.

As I started reading the book, I was surprised by the similarities between Macie and I. We had both lost our fathers suddenly from heart attacks and dealt with the grief by putting on a strong face for everyone around them. Another similarity that made me laugh thinking of my own dad was that Macie's dad was obsessed with buying products from info-mercials, even if they didnt really need them. Well, if any of you knew my dad, he was the exact same way. Growing up, we would get boxes in the mail with crazy gadgets, exercise equipment or the next best invention.
In some weird way I feel like I needed to read this book and I am so grateful that Leilani chose it. I learned so many things from the book about myself and it is now one of my favorites. I am so grateful for good friends who I can talk to about anything.

On a lighter note, I wanted to share some photos from a simple wedding cake that I made this week. My friend, Linsey asked me on Tuesday if I could help her with a cake for her mother-in-laws wedding (that is today) and I was happy to help. Linsey is part of the book club so I was able to bring it with me last night. It is a three layered chocolate cake with a chocolate pudding
filling covered in white fondant.

I always tell myself I'm going to try to read more. I've had a book from the library for about a week...okay, probably 2 weeks and I'm halfway through chapter 2. It's sad...really I should read more.

I am so impressed with your cake! It's beautiful!

Mary, good for you! It is nice to have great friends, like yourself, who are there to uplift our spirits when they need a little uplifting. That aside, that cake looks damn good! Any left-overs?
